The effect of ammonia treatment on the digestibility of rice straw under various process conditions

Eng.33:309-313.Rice straw was treatedwith aqueous NH3 at 2,4, 6 and8% of strawdry matter(DM)such that the final measured moisture content was 21% (wet basis) and samples at each level of ammoniation wereheldunderambient (30°C) conditions for 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. In-vitro DM digestibility (IVDMD) of the straw showed higher digestibilities with increasing levels of NH3 application. The ammoniation process under ambientconditions was completed within 7 days. In a second series of experiments, samples of rice straw having final moisture contents of 13% and 25% were treated with 6% NH3 andheldat30°C, 60°C and90°C forupto7days. Increasingthe treatment time, temperature and moisture content of the straw,all had positive effects on increasing IVDMD. Ona traite de la paille de riz au moyen de NH3 aqueux, avec 2, 4, 6 et 8 % de matieres seches, de telle sorteque le tauxd'humidite final mesure etaitde 21 % (rapport de matiere humide); a chaque etapedu traitement a rammoniac, les echantillons etaient maintenus a une temperature ambiante de 30°C pendant 7, 14, 21 et 28 jours. La digestibilite in vitro des matieres seches de la paille a augmente en fonction de Taugmentation de NH3. Le traitement a rammoniac, a la temperature ambiante, a ete effectue en 7 jours. Dans une deuxieme serie d'experiences, des echantillons de paille de riz, ayant un taux d'humidite final de 13et de 25 %, ont ete traites avec 6 % de NH3 et maintenus a des temperatures de 30, 60 et 90°C jusqu'a 7 jours. L'augmentation du temps de traitement, de la temperature et du taux d'humidite de la paille a eu, dans chaque cas, des effets positifs sur 1'augmentation de la digestibilite in vitro des matieres seches de la paille.
